New Space Intelligence (NSI; Headquarters: Ube City, Yamaguchi Prefecture; Representative Director and CEO: Yumiko Nagai), a developer of data platforms that transform global satellite data into formats suitable for social application through core calibration and integration technologies, has raised a total of 430 million yen through a third-party allotment of shares. The funding round was led by Partners Fund and included participation from various other investors.

In addition, NSI has been selected for the "Second Phase / Satellite Data Utilization System Implementation Acceleration Project" under the JAXA Space Strategic Fund.

Through this funding and the promotion of national projects, NSI will accelerate the development of next-generation data platform that enables the use of satellite data for social decision-making.

About the Fundraising

In this round, new shareholders joined from diverse industrial sectors—including mapping, communications, transportation, and finance—alongside venture capital firms, led by Partners Fund.

Lead Investor: Partners Fund

Managing Partners: Ryo Taneichi / Satoshi Fujii

"While Japan's space development has progressed with small satellite launches, the utilization of satellite data has lagged due to insufficient data quality and quantity. In this context, the AI-powered ground-based calibration technology developed over many years by NSI and Professor Masahiko Nagai of Yamaguchi University is a core technology for expanding the scope and sophistication of satellite data utilization. We have high expectations for NSI as a 'key' to expanding domestic satellite data services globally, and we are committed to fully supporting their growth."

Representative: New Space Intelligence, Inc.

CEO Yumiko Nagai

"We are sincerely grateful to the VCs and CVCs who participated in this Series A round. Furthermore, we are delighted that our technology has been recognized as a foundation for space data utilization through our selection for the JAXA Space Strategic Fund. This round is more than just fundraising; it marks the beginning of new partnerships to implement satellite data in society. We are committed to building a future where satellite data from around the world is systematically organized and utilized as a platform for informed social decision-making."

About the JAXA Space Strategic Fund

NSI was selected for the JAXA Space Strategic Fund (Phase 2) "Satellite Data Utilization System Implementation Acceleration Project".

  • Objective: To expand the use of domestic small satellites by resolving variations in quality and accuracy caused by individual aircraft differences and aging. It aims to develop evaluation, calibration, verification, and correction methods to enable high-precision, cross-sectional utilization of diverse satellite data.

  • NSI's Role: NSI is responsible for developing evaluation and verification methods for optical satellite data, directly linking to the company's core expertise in calibration and integration.

Project Overview

  • Project Title: Environmental development of evaluation, calibration, verification, and correction methods to accelerate the use of domestic small satellites.

  • Participating Organizations: RESTEC (Lead), PASCO, NSI, Axelspace, Synspective.

  • Project Lead: Michiko Higuchi (RESTEC).

  • Duration: From the contract date to September 2030 (planned).

About New Space Intelligence

As natural disasters intensify and social infrastructure ages, wide-area monitoring via satellite data has become crucial. However, because sensors and resolutions differ by satellite, it has traditionally been difficult to compare or integrate different datasets easily.

NSI has solved this by developing calibration and harmonization technology that standardizes different satellite data into a comparable format. By using ground-based mirror reflectors and sophisticated algorithms, NSI corrects noise specific to satellite data that AI alone cannot solve.

Core Offerings:

  • Satellite Data Pipeline®: An automated system that selects, integrates, and analyzes optimal satellite data based on client needs, budget, and frequency.

  • Global Land Index (GLI): A data platform that converts satellite data into indicators to continuously quantify the state of the Earth.

Key Benefits:

  • High-frequency ground observation via integrated data.

  • Cost optimization by combining multiple satellites.

  • Reliable data that bridges the differences between individual satellites.

  • Continuous observation even if a specific satellite stops operating.

Future Outlook and Recruitment

NSI will use this funding to accelerate the development of applications based on GLI and strengthen its product development, sales, and marketing teams. Geographically, the company plans to expand service provision beyond Japan to Asia, North America, and Africa.

NSI is actively recruiting engineers, data scientists, and business development professionals. With a global team of members from over seven countries and offices in both Ube (Headquarters) and Tokyo, NSI is working to build a new industry that uses space data as a foundation for social decision-making.
